Qumran

Qumran is located on the northwestern plain of the Dead Sea, near the mouth of the Qumran River. The place became especially famous because of the Dead Sea scrolls found there. The Qumran caves were discovered in 1946 by a Bedouin boy who went looking for a stray goat, and discovered a cave with a clay pot inside which manuscripts were hidden. This discovery led to the discovery of 929 manuscripts at the site as part of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. After the discovery of the scrolls, an excavation was conducted, and its findings revealed the remains of a settlement built according to the researchers’ estimates between 130 and 150 BC.
